Learning The Entire Arpeggio

For each arpeggio, start with one position and move your way down the neck. You can pick them using alternate picking, economy picking, or sweep picking. Start slow till you can play all the notes cleanly and evenly and then slowly increase your speed.

In this lesson, I will show you 4 arpeggios in the key of C: Fmaj7, G7, Bm7b5, and Dm7

F maj 7

this arpeggio can be played in the key of C and the key of F.
In any key, the 1st and 4th notes of the scale can be played as a maj7 arpeggio. For example, in the key of C, you can play the Cmaj7 and the Fmaj7.

Fmaj7 at the first position

4/4
|-----------------|-1-5-
|-------------1-5-|-----
|-----------2-----|-----
|-------2-3-------|-----
|-----3-----------|-----
|-1-5-------------|-----

Learn how to play this up and down. Its a bit of a stretch, but if your fingers can't go that far, try playing it at the 13th fret one octave up.

Fmaj7 at the fifth position

8-5---------|--------
----6-5-----|--------
--------5---|--------
----------7-|--------
------------|-8-7----
------------|-----8-5

Again, make sure you learn to play this pattern both up and down and try to play it clean and even and don't worry about playing it fast.

Fmaj7 at the 8th position

----------|------------8-12-
----------|---------10------
----------|----9-10---------
----------|-10--------------
-----8-12-|-----------------
8-12------|-----------------

Fmaj7 at the 12th position (this is my personal favorite way to play this arpeggio)

-13-12--|-------------------------|
--------|-13----------------------|
--------|----14-------------------|
--------|-------15-14-------------|
--------|-------------15-12-------|
--------|-------------------13-12-|

Then at the thirteenth position it repeats the first pattern as at the first position

|-------------------------|-13----17----|
|-------------------13-17-|-------------|
|----------------14-------|-------------|
|----------14-15----------|-------------|
|-------15----------------|-------------|
|-13-17-------------------|-------------|

So here is the entire Fmaj7 arpeggio
remember, these patterns can be moved up and down the neck to play the same arpeggio in different keys.

4/4
|-----------------|-1-5-8-5---------|
|-------------1-5-|---------6-5-----|
|-----------2-----|-------------5---|
|-------2-3-------|---------------7-|
|-----3-----------|-----------------|
|-1-5-------------|-----------------|

|-------------------|------------8-12-13-12--|
|-------------------|---------10-------------|
|-------------------|----9-10----------------|
|-------------------|-10---------------------|
|-8-7----------8-12-|------------------------|
|-----8-5-8-12------|------------------------|

|-------------------------|-------------------------|-13----17----|
|-13----------------------|-------------------13-17-|-------------|
|----14-------------------|----------------14-------|-------------|
|-------15-14-------------|----------14-15----------|-------------|
|-------------15-12-------|-------15----------------|-------------|
|-------------------13-12-|-13-17-------------------|-------------|

G7

First position

|-----------------|-1-3-
|---------------3-|-----
|-------------4---|-----
|---------3-5-----|-----
|-----2-5---------|-----
|-1-3-------------|-----

1 3 1 4 2 4 3 2 1 2

Playing the G7 is a bit of a finger gymnastics exercise. So, I put the finger numbers under the tab for how I play it, however, if you may find a way that works better for you.

When playing this arpeggio decending, it may be easier to play the G on the low E string with your 2nd finger instead of your 3rd.

G7 in the third position

-7-3---------|---------
-----6-3-----|---------
---------4---|---------
-----------5-|-3-------
-------------|---5-----
-------------|-----7-3-

G7 at the 7th position

-----------|----------7-10-
-----------|--------8------
-----------|---7-10--------
-----------|-9-------------
------8-10-|---------------
-7-10------|---------------

G7 at the 10th position

-10-13---|-------------------
-------12|-------------------
---------|-12-10-------------
---------|-------12----------
---------|----------14-10----
---------|----------------13-

G7 at the 13th position (same pattern as first position)

----|----------------------13-|-15----|

|----------14-10----------|----14-17----------------|-------|
|----------------13-10-13-|-15----------------------|-------|

Dmin7

In the key of C, you can also play an Emin7 or A min7 arpeggio.

I hope this lesson helped. If anybody knows any other cool arpeggios for me to do this for please post them.
